Columbus Day

Through all my years of formal education, through elementary and high school, and on into my adulthood, and even to middle age, we were taught that our dating system was numbered from the birth of Jesus Christ. All events happening before that turning point in history were Before Christ (BC), and events that occurred later were shown as AD meaning "Anno Domini" which is Latin for "the year of our Lord."

Many documents, such as the Constitution of the United States, actually spelled out "the year of our Lord."

Then in about 2000, I began to see a subtle change. The secular education system, in their constant effort to rewrite history, and eliminate the truth of the Christian influence throughout the centuries, has implemented the idea of using BCE and CE, instead of BC and AD.

These letters mean Before Common Era (BCE) and Common Era (CE). Since it is not politically correct to admit the influence of Christ in the course of history, radical extremists are attempting to eliminate all references to Him.

The Christian religion, upon which our Republic was founded is no longer welcome in our classrooms. But what if some super-smart student should ask the question: "What caused the Common Era to begin when it did? How did that point in history come about to be the pivotal point?"

So we are right back where we started. Do we tell the students the truth about BCE and CE? The fact remains that Jesus Christ was the most influential person in world history. The foundation of the United States was largely the Christian faith and the principles of the Holy Bible. Why are we trying to eliminate this TRUTH from the history books? Let's be sure we continue to use BC and AD. Why be afraid of the truth?

Why not Truth in Education?
